Processing Fee FAQ

Why are you adding this new fee, and what does it cover?

This processing fee helps offset the growing costs of running a high-performance platform. It covers infrastructure that scales with store activity, usage-based services, and third-party API integrations. It’s a more sustainable way for us to continue improving the platform without raising base subscription prices.

Can we absorb the fee instead of passing it to our customers?

Yes. By default, the fee is paid by your customers at checkout. If you’d prefer to cover it yourself, just let us know and we’ll disable it on your checkout and set it as an application fee on your end.

Can we raise our monthly price instead to avoid the fee?

We don’t offer a subscription-only model for this. Applying the fee to orders is the most fair and scalable way to cover real usage-based costs that vary by store activity. It also ensures we can continue investing in performance, new features, and integrations without bloating your monthly bill.

Can we change the wording of the processing fee on the checkout page?

Yes. You’re free to customize how the fee appears to customers. Some commonly used options include:

  • Service Fee
  • GoPrep Platform Fee
  • Checkout Processing
  • Software Fee

Just let us know what you’d like it to say and we’ll take care of the change.

Is this kind of fee common?

Yes. Most modern platforms today, especially in food service, ordering, and e-commerce, use a similar model. Charging a small platform or service fee is now a standard approach to support ongoing infrastructure and product development without raising flat monthly subscription costs.

Will this fee hurt my sales or customer retention?

Industry research shows that processing fees under 2% have no measurable impact on customer behavior, conversion rates, or retention. This type of fee is now a normal part of the online checkout experience and most customers are already used to seeing it.
